Tuskegee Airmen Served With Honor

The Tuskegee Airmen served under the branch of the United States Army.

The "Black Airmen" earned:

• Three Unit Citations

• More than 744 Air Medals & Clusters

• 150 Distinguished Flying Crosses

•14 Bronze Stars

• 31 Purple Hearts

• Legion of Merit

• Red Star of Yugoslavia

Additional Facts:

• Over 15,000 combat sorties (Including 6000+ for the 99th prior to July '44)

• 112 German airplanes destroyed in the air

• 150 German aircraft destroyed on the ground

• 950 rail cars, trucks, and other motor vehicles destroyed

• One destroyer sunk by P-47 machine gun fire

• Sixty-six pilots killed in action or accidents

• Thirty-two pilots downed and captured POWs
